TUESDAY 1 JULY 13.30 – 15.00
Open Innovation: Multinationals and Minnows – how do they innovate together?
How large and small companies collaborate to bring new products to market
Chair: John Francis, Director of Research & Business Development, Oxford Brookes University
Open Innovation is a term used to describe a new paradigm of large companies collaborating on innovation on a more extensive scale with external organisations – for example, university researchers, suppliers, small tech start-ups - to bring new products to the market.
The challenge is how large companies source the best ideas most appropriate to their strategic needs, and how small innovative organisations identify whether they have something of potential value and attract the attention of large companies.
This session aims to demonstrate how companies leading the field are addressing the challenge. It compares and contrasts the ICT, pharmaceuticals and consumer products sectors and hears the perspective from an innovative small company.
Speakers:
Lars Lindstedt, Software Economist, Microsoft Ltd
Philip Oliver, Associate Director, Global External R&D Europe, Lilly UK
Mike Addison, R&D Section Head, Procter & Gamble
Professor Bill Dawson, Chairman, South East Health Technologies Alliance and Managing Director, Bionet Ltd
