Innovation futures stream

The ‘Innovation Futures’ stream will cover four exciting areas which have strong connections with the Oxford area.

These are ‘Automotive’ – in particular covering the rise in electric vehicles and their impact on society, ‘Cities of the Future’ – in particular building on form the electric vehicles but also describing both new developments and also working with current accommodation, ‘Space’ – in particular covering the application of space technology to non-space markets, and ‘Particle Physics’ – showing the link between research at the most fundamental level and technologies with widespread applications. Talks in each of these areas will highlight the tremendous opportunity for innovation, and will illustrate this with specific opportunities.

The sessions are designed to appeal to a wide audience, and not just specialists in those areas

Advances in Automotive Technology

Advances in Automotive Technology

The session will focus upon future enabling technologies, including but not exclusively:

1) The new automotive challenge: electrification and sustainable engineering, Prof Allan Hutchinson (OBU)
2) Development of the Yokeless And Segmented Armature (YASA) motor, YASA Motors – Oxford University spin-out
3) Inductive power transfer for vehicle charging, Qualcomm IPT

Cities of the Future

Cities of the Future

Both New Build and Transformation of Existing whilst Maintaining the Architectural Heritage.

The session will also focus upon enabling technologies for new buildings and for use with existing, again including but not exclusively:

1) Low carbon transformation of UK housing, Prof Rajat Gupta (OBU)
2) Transpired solar collectors for energy capture, Dr Chris Kendrick (OBU)
3) Urban infrastructure for electric transportation, Mr David Martell, CEO, Chargemaster plc
